Friends of Smith Hill Community Library

The Friends of Smith Hill Community Library is reinvigorated as is the entire library system now that all the neighborhood libraries are under the new management of the Providence Community Libraries.

The Smith Hill Library Friends Group is a group of community members committed to helping the library succeed.  The Smith Hill Library Friends Group has put on and/or supported numerous projects and programs such as the Holiday Bazaar, Children’s Christmas Party, Keep Our Families Warm Campaign, Community Cook-Out, Halloween Spooktacular, Community Clean-Ups, and the PCL Library Card Campaign among many more.  These programs help our patrons and community members obtain many positive things such as free clothing, toys/gifts, food, knowledge, pride of self/neighborhood and a great community spirit

There hsd never been a better time to join the Friends Group.   The level of your involvement is completely up to you.  All they are asking for is $5 a year membership fee to go towards things like programming and minor physical improvements (like the creation of a small park behind the library) and for permission to keep you informed about library news.  Now that the PPL has been phased out of community library management, the specter of library cuts are no longer.  However, now management is truly in the hands of the community and we need strong library supporters and leaders.

The Smith Hill Library Friends Group has regular meetings where they identify library needs and attempt to fill these gaps. Currently, they maintain several periodicals which have been dropped from this year’s budgets. Below is a list of magazines and sponsors. Please contact Alan Gunther or Althea Graves to become a library Friend. Visit the Library Friend’s Blog here.
